World Women Tourism Webinar Series: Accelerating Women in Indonesian Tourism Industry

World Women Tourism (WWT), an organization connecting women tourism professionals, launched a Glocal Webinar Series (GWS) to help women in the tourism & hospitality industry impacted by COVID-19. The goal of the GWS aims to support women in the tourism industry so that they may better approach the new disruptions that challenge their personal and professional lives. This session focused on the Indonesian Tourism Industry. WWT hosted the event together with Trisakti School of Tourism and Swiss German University, in collaboration with James Cook University Australia, James Cook University Singapore, Griffith University Australia (Griffith Institute of Tourism), Indonesia Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesian Hotel General Manager Association Jakarta Chapter, and JCU Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA). Several hotel industry supported the event through sponsorship. They included Premiere Simatupang Hotel, Goodrich Suites Swiss-belhotel Bogor, Fraser Residence Sudirman Jakarta, and Artotel Thamrin Jakarta.

Hosted by Dr. Barkathunisha, the webinar dicussed the issues and challenges for women in Indonesia, with expert speakers Associate Professor Catheryn Khoo-Lattimore, Dr. Hera Oktadiana, CHE, Ms. Wita Junifah and Dr. Nila Krisnawati.

The Webinar was opened by Mr Ismeth Emier Oesman, SE, MM, one of the Vice Presidents of Trisakti School of Tourism Jakarta. Mr Surana, MBA, Acting Director of Tourism Human Resources Development of the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy started the webinar by sharing the various strategies and actions that the Indonesia government have in plan, to support and invest in women for the Indonesian Tourism Industry. Despite the pandemic, our experts shared insightful resources and encouragement to ignite new passion within every woman in the industry. Associate Professor Catheryn Khoo-Lattimore spoke about making oneself visible in the industry, encouraging all the participants to reskill, retrain, reach out and be bold! “Mentorship is important in making ourselves visible” was an advice given by Associate Professor Catheryn Khoo-Lattimore, motivating the participants to be courageous in reaching out to the experience and seeking a mentorship.

Ms Wita Junifah, Dr. Nila Krisnawati and Dr. Hera Oktadiana carried on to encourage women with their presentation on womens role and competitive advantages in Indonesias Hospitality and Tourism Sector. Lifting the spirits and passion of every participants that were in the session, giving them new strategies and mindset on how to achieve their goals.
The session ended off with a powerful networking session. Despite everything being online, WWT was able to bring webinars to the next level with an all-women panels, sharing of deep insights that are highly relevant to the tourism industry during the pandemic, luxury hotel giveaways, impactful networking and collaborations. We look forward to seeing the benefits coming out of this session and that the women, and men, who attended this webinar have been empowered to do more. (Red).
